About Us:
The Centre for British Progress is a leading non-partisan organisation advancing public understanding of key policy issues. We shape debate, publish research, and create forums where innovative ideas influence the public and policymakers alike.
Key Responsibilities
Research publications
- Work with CBP’s leadership, our Head of Communications and the research team to manage the research publication pipeline.
- This requires good judgment about policy priorities and research timelines, and having good ‘taste’ to know what messages and headlines we want to push, and when.
- Establish good processes for research and editing to help ensure reports are published on time, language and style are consistent, and all research is produced to a high quality.
The Progress Post
- Plan and publish content to The Progress Post, our Substack newsletter
- Come up with new feature ideas, write and edit copy, and experiment with ways to grow the Substack audience
- Liaise with team members and external contributors on their ideas for non-research content, shepherding pieces from idea to draft to published piece
- Liaise with interviewees and their representatives for our Pen Portrait series
- Create basic designs in Canva to illustrate the newsletter
Style and Copy-editing
- Take responsibility for ensuring a consistent style across all written content, including The Progress Post, the Centre for British Progress website, and email and events communications
- Establish editorial processes to apply this style across the organisation’s public-facing content
- Assist the team ad hoc with copy-editing
Communications Growth
- Ideate new editorial projects for the Centre, such as multimedia content, one-off printed publications, or events
- Help expand our communications output over time, with scope to develop podcasts, video, and other new formats
- Assist the Head of Communications on press outreach where appropriate
Skills and Experience

- Excellent writing skills
- Excellent editing skills
- Good judgment about what matters to our audience, what makes a compelling argument, and where writing needs to be improved
- Alignment with CBP’s mission and goals
Desirable:
